Strategy Shares Surge 50% as Bitcoin Tops $80,000
Shares of Strategy, the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, have climbed more than 50% over the past month as the cryptocurrency’s price advanced past $80,000, according to DL News. The stock rose about 4% Monday to near $184, building on a 7% gain Friday, with after-hours trading pointing to further gains ahead of the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.
DL News reported that Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted $827 million in the first two trading days of May, extending a two-month streak of inflows, according to DefiLlama data cited by the outlet. More than $200 million in short positions tied to Bitcoin were liquidated in a single day as the rally accelerated.
Strategy’s stock is widely viewed as a leveraged proxy for Bitcoin’s price movements. Jake Kennis, senior research analyst at Nansen, told DL News that Bitcoin’s hourly funding rate of 0.00045% remains well below levels that typically precede sharp corrections, suggesting the rally is not driven by excessive leverage.
Analysts cited by DL News expect Strategy to report roughly $125 million in quarterly revenue, up from $115 million a year earlier, alongside an accounting loss linked to Bitcoin price swings and financing costs. Investor attention has increasingly shifted to the company’s capital markets strategy, particularly its Bitcoin-backed preferred stock, STRC, which pays a variable annual dividend near 11.5% and has grown to $8.5 billion in notional value in under nine months, DL News reported.
Strategy founder Michael Saylor told the Bitcoin 2026 conference in Las Vegas that STRC has financed the acquisition of about 77,000 Bitcoin so far this year. BlackRock’s iShares Preferred and Income Securities ETF has taken a $210 million position in the instrument, according to DL News.
